Selcuk

July 2006 - Selcuk is a town at the foot of Mount Aladag where Ephesus is. We didn't have time to look round it much but it's supposed to be very pretty. It also has an Ephesus Museum which has lots of interesting artifacts found at Ephesus that were too portable to leave there, and also some spectacular statues of Artemis who was worshipped by generations of Ephesians. The statues at the museum show her wearing lots of breasts and many bull's testicles which I thought were very fetching.

At the bus stop to return from Ephesus to Selcuk we ran into the French students again. First they tried to persuade someone to take them for free (all 14 of them). We had hoped they'd succeed so we wouldn't have to share with them, but unfortunately they failed. A part-occupied bus pulled up shortly after and they tried to get the bus driver to turf everyone else out but he wouldn't so they all got on. We had a brief flash of wisdom and jumped in the front seats with the driver, and when the French students tried to underpay the already VERY cheap fare (8 euros for all 14 of you, you W@NKERS) we told the driver not to let them get away with it cos they were BAAAD people, so he didn't. Ha. Justice of a sort.
